Nevada Cancer Coalition set out to accomplish some big goals in 2017 and our hard work paid off. Here's a look at some of the highlights:
17,150 Students Served
Sun Smart Schools expanded to 42 schools across six counties, bringing sun safety to students from pre-K through 12th grades. It's now considered one of the most creative and progressive skin cancer prevention programs in the nation! Read more in our 2017 recap.
Survivors Sharing Their Stories
Cancer Survivor Focus Groups gave us insight into the experiences of survivors from throughout Nevada, helping partners to identify what's working, what's not, and what direction to go in the future. Read the report.
Recognizing Leaders, Learning Together
The 9th Nevada Cancer Control Summit knocked the socks off attendees (and us as well!) with local, regional, and national speakers. We also honored a number of cancer leaders with the Summit Awards. See who was honored with a Summit Award.
Assessments Lead to Innovation
Our Clinical Liaison project provided a glimpse at successful systems and new opportunities to increase cancer early detection activities in community health clinics. It also led to creation of new tools for our clinical partners, already in use at a number of locations. Read our Clinical Liaison Project report.
Policy Success and Nevada on the Map!
NCC made strides on a number of policy issues during the 2017 Nevada legislative session. We lent support to successful bills for clinical trials, palliative care and quality of life, state funding for Women's Health Connection, and access to biosimilars. Cancer reporting laws revised through NCC's work in the 2015 session also helped Nevada to finally make the cancer data map in 2017!
