The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has been providing Nevada’s cancer and health communities as well as interested public with opportunities to attend free, informative Roundtables on diverse healthcare topics. Over the past decade, we have presented on issues such as: Access to Care; Smoking Tobacco and Second- Hand Smoke; Healthy Eating and Active Living; Palliative Care and Quality of Life; Colorectal Cancer; and Personalized Medicine.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And this October, ACS CAN will take an updated, 2017 look at breast cancer in our state. The American Cancer Society’s annual publication -- Cancer Facts and Figures-- estimates that this year 2,010 women in Nevada will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer remains the #1 cancer incidence site for women in Nevada – with lung cancer second. 380 Nevada women will die from breast cancer – second only to lung. Our state’s breast cancer death rate continues to be above the national average per 100,000 population.
The Nevada Roundtables goal is for its presenters to raise questions and find answers to: Where are We? Where are We Going? How do We Get There? Breast Cancer 2017 will look at Screening, Treatment, Survivorship, Clinical Trials, and Genetics.
In Las Vegas, working with the Nevada Minority Health & Equity Coalition, that Roundtable will explore the impact of breast cancer in minority populations. Two Nevada opportunities. Two outstanding Nevada panels. Too informative to miss.
