Battle Born Thrivers is a closed Facebook group connecting young adults (ages 18 - 39) in the northern Nevada/eastern Sierra region to local support. The mission is to create a network of young adults who have been affected by cancer, as a patient or caregiver to a young adult, to share support and stories.

The group believes that young adults should have access to different support networks that can help to address concerns facing younger populations, such as dating, working, college, marriage, and reproduction, which are just a few young adult life factors that are affected by a cancer diagnosis.

The group hosts casual meet-ups for coffee or drinks on a monthly basis, and additional activities as opportunity arises. Discussion in the Facebook group is ongoing and open.

Support Programs & Services, For Caregivers & Family

Patients and caregivers often find it helpful to talk to someone who’s been through similar experiences.

Patients and caregivers often find it helpful to talk to someone who’s been through similar experiences. The Be The Match Peer Connect program will help you get in touch with a trained volunteer who is also a bone marrow transplant recipient or caregiver.

The program is available to both transplant patients and caregivers and they will do their best to find someone that most closely matches your situation (based on age, disease, etc.) Talking with other transplant recipients and caregivers can help answer questions such as:

  • How long did it take to recover?
  • What should I bring to the hospital?
  • What is your life like after transplant?

The Cancer Experience Registry is a unique online community that allows people facing cancer to share their experience, identify the issues that impact their lives, take surveys, access resources, and learn from each other. It is free, confidential, and open to anyone who had been diagnosed with cancer or provides care to a cancer patient.

Once you are registered and have completed the survey, you are invited to a new (and optional) online forum that will connect you with other patients and caregivers who are affected by cancer. The forum provides a safe and support environment for you to share your own expertise, or learn from others "who have been there." By partnering with Smart Patients, the Cancer Experience Registry is helping empower patients to improve care for themselves and others. Join the Smart Patients Cancer Experience Forum, ask a question, and support others who can learn from you.
