Hosted by Nevada Cancer Coalition, the Nevada Cancer Control Summit is a statewide conference featuring sessions on targeted topics across the cancer spectrum. The Summit brings together physicians, nurses, advocates, survivors, administrators, and more to share cutting-edge information, update practitioners on the latest topics in cancer care, and strengthen the coalition to further cancer control efforts in Nevada.
The Summit offers continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, cancer registry professionals, and oftentimes credits for other specialty areas. Click the CME/CE tab for updated credit information.

Continuing Education Credit
The Summit offers continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, cancer registry professionals, and oftentimes credits for other specialty areas, through the University of Nevada, Reno Office of Continuing Medical Education. Credit information will be posted as soon as it has been approved.

2018 Summit Awards
Nevada Cancer Coalition’s annual awards recognize organizations and individuals who have exemplified the essence of passion and leadership in cancer control in their respective community, region, or statewide. Awards are given for unique programs, collaborating companies, and incredible individuals. Nominations will open May 1, 2018.
All awards will be presented at the 2018 Nevada Cancer Control Summit.
Awards categories are as follows:
Health Care Partner of the Year
Recognizing an organization, physician, or patient navigator, the Health Care Partner of the Year award honors those that have embraced the work of Nevada Cancer Coalition and cancer control throughout the state. Displaying both a commitment to collaboration and a dedication to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, or quality of life, awardees in this category have demonstrated that big picture thinking and teamwork can make positive change.
Community Program Award
The Community Program Award recognizes a program or resource in Nevada, either community-based, regional, or statewide, that has had a positive impact on cancer control initiatives. Eligible programs should be focused on cancer prevention, early detection, access to diagnosis or treatment, palliative care, survivorship and quality of life, or cancer research. Programs must be effective between the dates of July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 to be considered.
Community Champion Award
Honoring individuals, the Community Champion Award recognizes someone who has gone above and beyond to make positive change for those within the community. Whether through excellence in volunteerism or excellence in the workplace, Community Champions are proven leaders demonstrating a commitment to helping those with cancer.
Past awardees include:
- Cassie Goodman, Medical Exercise & Safety Supervisor, Saint Mary's Fitness Center, in recognition of her compassion and dedication to cancer survivors in Nevada
- Courtney Parento, RN, in recognition of her leadership and dedication to cancer prevention in Nevada
- Stephanie Kirby, executive director of Susan G Komen Nevada, for leadership and dedication to women with breast cancer in Nevada
NCC’s Advocacy Award recognizes individuals dedicated to championing policies to support cancer prevention and early detection, increase access to diagnosis, treatment, and clinical trials, and promote palliative care, survivorship, and quality of life for those with cancer.
Past awardees include:
- Tom McCoy, JD, for years of dedication in championing policies to reduce the burden of cancer among Nevadans
- Shelby Adams, for passionately advocating for palliative care issues at both the state and national level by sharing her own personal story
- Senator Joyce Woodhouse, who affirmed herself as a true champion of change in cancer outcomes for those in Nevada through dogged determination passing statewide legislation
- Stacey Escalante, whose willingness to share her personal journey with melanoma time and time again helped to create a statewide law aimed at skin cancer prevention
Awarded to a member of the Nevada Cancer Registrars Association, this award recognizes excellence in cancer data reporting.
