The Nevada Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program (RESEP) was established to identify and locate people who exposed to radiation from above-ground nuclear testing and provide medical screening and referrals, educate the public on radiation induced illnesses, and assist eligible citizens to access the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). Qualifying "downwinders," onsite participants and former uranium workers have access to free annual cancer screenings focusing on the early detection of cancer. Screenings are offered at locations in Las Vegas, Caliente, Reno, Ely, Winnemucca and Elko. RESEP can also assist with applying for RECA compensation.

The Nevada Radon Education Program (NREP), a program of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, was instituted in 2007 to educate the citizens of Nevada about the radon health risk.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) offers literature, educational programs and radon test kits in many county Extension offices. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, but people can protect themselves against it by testing their home for radon levels and working to lower those levels through mitigation. The State of Nevada’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program works towards bringing together communities and partner organizations who strive to reduce the burden of cancer in Nevada by combining efforts to: Reduce cancer risk; find cancers earlier; improve treatments; and increase the number of people who survive cancer. This program is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program which assists Nevada in supporting the Nevada Cancer Coalition to fight cancer in our state.

The Nevada Office of Rural Health was created by the state legislature in 1977 with a mission to assist rural communities.

The Nevada Office of Rural Health was created by the state legislature in 1977 with a mission to assist rural communities. The Office provides a broad array of technical assistance activities across all counties in Nevada. Annually, the program has continuous contact with over fifty communities and provides services such as education and training, outreach, hospital and health professional technical assistance, EMS technical assistance, telehealth/telecommunications, policy development/analysis and health workforce activities.

The office is dedicated to improving the health of rural Nevadans and serves as a focal point for a variety of programs. The Office of Rural Health provides state and national leadership in addressing recruitment and retention issues, technology resources, and promotion of graduate medical education. Key functions of the office are to provide coordination and technical assistance for rural Nevadans seeking health resources, conduct community development activities, and advocate for rural health issues.

Through the organization concerned Nevadans and public health officials joined together in a statewide movement to end “Big Tobacco’s” grip on our state. This organization strives to maximize public and private resources allocated to tobacco control by facilitating communication and networking among tobacco control efforts statewide. NTPC also assists in the expansion of cessation and prevention services across the state.

Nevada Tobacco Quitline is a FREE telephone service that has helped thousands of Nevadans quit their tobacco use since 1997. Individuals who enroll in services at the Helpline are five times more likely to successfully quit smoking ad tobacco than those who try to quit on their own. Telephone counseling is private and tailored to each individual. Counselors will be there for you during the preparation to quit, the first days and weeks of quitting and the help you develop skills and strategies to stay quit.

Nordstrom at Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas staffs Certified Prosthesis Fitters who are specially trained to fit women for all intimate apparel following a mastectomy, lumpectomy or other reconstructive breast surgery. The Breast Prosthesis Program provides the following services and items, which are available in comfortable, private Lingerie departments (selection may vary by store):

  • Enhancers and equalizers for lumpectomies and reconstructive breast surgery.
  • Post-mastectomy camisoles.
  • Free pocketing on the collection of bras.

Nordstrom currently does not accept insurance for items purchased online but can assist with Medicare claim filing in store. Please contact your insurance provider for coverage and filing information. In-store fit services are only available to customers purchasing prosthesis merchandise in store and with the required support of a Certified Prosthesis Fitter.
