Navigating the medical system when facing cancer can be a daunting task for patients, survivors, and their family members. To support you in this challenging task, we have assembled resources in an easy-to-use online tool.

Nordstrom at Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas staffs Certified Prosthesis Fitters who are specially trained to fit women for all intimate apparel following a mastectomy, lumpectomy or other reconstructive breast surgery. The Breast Prosthesis Program provides the following services and items, which are available in comfortable, private Lingerie departments (selection may vary by store):

  • Enhancers and equalizers for lumpectomies and reconstructive breast surgery.
  • Post-mastectomy camisoles.
  • Free pocketing on the collection of bras.

Nordstrom currently does not accept insurance for items purchased online but can assist with Medicare claim filing in store. Please contact your insurance provider for coverage and filing information. In-store fit services are only available to customers purchasing prosthesis merchandise in store and with the required support of a Certified Prosthesis Fitter.

Northern Nevada HOPES is a patient-centered medical home offering a variety of services in a clinic setting, including women's health exams such as Pap test and clinical breast exams, as well as other types of cancer screening. Wellness and nutrition counseling as well as chronic disease management is also available. The Breast Health Clinic also offers breast health services for uninusured women ages 40 - 49 thanks to a generous donation from Northern Nevada Komen Foundation. Services including breast exams, breast cancer risk education and mammograms. The case management staff can also assist with determining eligibility for Medicaid or other insurance through Nevada Health Link.

Northern Nevada Medical Center's Department of Occupational Therapy is dedicated to helping patients achieve their highest level of function and independence to return to the community. The occupational therapy staff works with all disciplines, including neurosciences, orthopedics, gerontology and general medicine.

Occupational Therapy Services

Occupational therapists use therapeutic approaches to restore and enhance each patient's living skills. Patients are trained to resume their daily routines, including toileting, grooming, bathing, dressing, cooking and working. Specific services include:

  • Evaluation and treatment of cognitive function
  • Evaluation and treatment of visual perception
  • Evaluation and treatment of ocular motor function
  • Training for Activities of Daily Living: self-care and homemaking
  • Hand therapy: splinting, controlled range of motion exercises and edema control - for ahnd and upper extremity injuries, reconstructive surgery and burns
  • Assessment and treatment of lymphedema

We provide music therapy services for people with a range of diagnoses, both at our location and in the community in collaboration with many partners. Music therapy is the therapeutic use of music to address physical, emotional, and relational challenges. All of our music therapists are board-certified  and hold Nevada music therapy licenses. 

Renown Health Institute for Cancer

Renown not only provides inpatient and outpatient oncology services, but also support groups for cancer patients and cancer survivors.

NMTS began providing music therapy to cancer support groups in November 2016, and inpatient oncology in February 2017. Music therapists lead Music and Wellness groups once per month, helping those affected by cancer reduce pain/anxiety, and increase relaxation through music assisted relaxation, music listening, and improvisation. Music therapists provide live music, emotional support, and guided relaxation to the oncology & palliative care inpatient unit twice per month to help patients and loved ones to increase connection, access coping skills, and release emotional tension. 

Palliative and Hospice Care

Music is a highly versatile and dynamic therapeutic modality, lending itself to a variety of interventions that can benefit people living with life-threatening illnesses, along with their family members and caregivers. By using skillfully planned musical improvisations, songwriting, relaxation techniques, and person-centered techniques, music therapy is a holistic therapy for palliative care and hospice, whatever the care setting.

Music Therapy:

  • Decreases symptoms such as nausea, pain, fatigue and shortness of breath
  • Addresses emotional issues such as depression, anxiety, anger and fear
  • Strengthens spiritual connections
  • Alleviates social isolation, loneliness and boredom
  • Strengthens relationships with family and friends
  • Creates musical legacies such as songs, performances, recordings and music-based life reviews

Each of Nevada's Community Health Nursing clinics offers a variety of services including nursing services to residents of all ages and incomes.  The community health nurses provide services in 13 locations throughout the state.  Each clinic provides services at a low cost or using a sliding scale dependent upon income.  Services are not denied due to inability to pay.  The clinics also accept private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. Services include cancer screening for breast, cervical, colorectal and testicular cancers, immunizations including for the HPV vaccine, as well as counseling and education on a variety of health topics.
