The Oncology Department provides oncology care through inpatient unit RN staff who are ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certified with at least 25% as OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse). Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy RN certification is maintained through an annual competency.
The UMC Oncology Care Center, with a capacity of 28 patients, is designed to provide quality patient care requiring health care services by prevention and/or treatment of any oncology/hematology illness and by the detection and treatment of complications related to these illnesses. The staff assists the patients with care, teaching, emotional support, and coping skills, independence and provides a cancer survivor support group for patients, families, and friends. Other services include nutritional consults, social services, case management, oncology patient navigation, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Palliative Care, and Integrative Therapy.
Community outreach programs focus on cancer prevention and screening events. In addition, the lung cancer screening program provides a multidisciplinary approach to patient care with expedited referrals, decreased time to therapy and coordinated treatment.
