New programs launched at The Center in Reno
07 July, 2021
A new series of programs for cancer survivors and thrivers, caregivers and loved ones begins Aug. 16, organized by Reno nonprofit Cancer Community Clubhouse and hosted at The Center in south Reno. Cancer Community Clubhouse co-founder Natalie Zacharczyk shared this update:
We are starting with a select few weekly programs - mind/body workshops, writing for healing, craft workshops and socials - to promote reconnection of body and mind and to encourage building relationships of support with others who understand what a cancer experience is like. We will expand our programs and offerings as we find more volunteers and community sponsors to provide these for our community.
These programs are strictly for people who have been affected by any cancer in any way, including those who have lost someone to cancer and caregivers. We invite new members to bring a friend their first time so they can become familiar with us. Our hope is that newly diagnosed patients will find our community to offer understanding and support since we have all "been there."
We also hope to reach those who have completed treatment and need a place to "detox" out of the oncology world and the experience they just endured. Finally, how do we offer hope unless we have a group of longer-term survivors who can show that a hopeful and happy life exists after treatment?
Class sizes will start small with only 10 people per class, which means it's important to RSVP for each program you plan to attend. Cancer Community Clubhouse doesn't have an online RSVP system yet; to reserve your spot email Natalie or call or text 940-231-6209. Spots will open first to those with RSVPs and any remaining spaces can be filled by walk-ins.
We encourage people to attend as often as they like. You will see the same weekly programs, so our hope is that people will attend regularly to be able to form the community relationships we aim to support.
We believe thrivorship is done best in community - let's get this long-needed community started! Feel free to share our info with anyone you know who has been affected by cancer OR any companies you know who would like to support our cause!
An online calendar and program descriptions are online at https://www.cancercommunityclubhouse.org/calendar-of-events.html. All programs will be held inside of The Center, located at 55 Foothill Rd, next to Healthy Tails in the South Creek shopping center.
