NCC Board Member Wins National Recognition

Nevada Cancer Coalition board member Debbie Anderson on Aug. 23, 2022 will travel to Nashville, Tenn., as Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital's 2022 Mercy Award winner. She'll join Mercy Award winners from across the country for a gala event where a winner for the company-wide Mercy Award for LifePoint Health will be announced.

We are so proud to have her as an important part of our coalition and wish her a wonderful trip to Nashville.

Joining FORCEs Against Hereditary Cancer® is an international conference designed to empower individuals and families facing hereditary cancer.

Relaxation can lead to better cancer outcomes

A cancer diagnosis, cancer treatments and cancer caregiving can all be among the most stressful times in a person’s life. That stress, according to experts at the Mayo Clinic, can have impacts on your body, your mood and your behavior. Some of the impacts include headaches, fatigue, irritability, depression and anxiety, drug or alcohol abuse, angry outbursts and over- or under-eating, to name a few. 

Rural Outreach Clinic

University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine hosts this rural outreach medical clinic to provide medical care for those with no insurance or who do not have insurance coverage for certain services. The event includes general and sports physicals, well and sick child visits, vaccines and lab services, cervical cancer screening, breast exams and mammogram referrals, and other health exams. Dental services available by appointment.

NCC's Policy Recommendations Attract Attention

Back in February of 2022 NCC got bold.

The Biden Administration released their new iteration of the Cancer Moonshot, and we got excited about the opportunities. We knew, though, that the last Moonshot was focused on innovative treatments. What we know will help move the needle in Nevada is more than that -- it's policy, systems and environmental changes to help people prevent cancer, live healthier lives, and access health care to find cancers earlier when they're easiest to treat.

And we said that. Out loud.

HPV Vaccinations: The Dental Community’s Role Continuing Education Interactive Learning Series

The American Cancer Society (ACS) in partnership with the Nevada Dental Association (NDA) and Pacific Dental Services (PDS) presents this interactive webinar series to educate dental providers on the HPV vaccination and its role in cancer prevention. The Nevada Dental Association will be providing continuing education to all in attendance.

This is a 5-session series with sessions Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28 and Oct. 4. The cost for all five sessions is $99 or FREE for ADA/NDA members.
